I was inspired to build a model of Hawaii because I have always admired how beautiful it was,. To start off the model, we built a form out of cardboard to resemble a volcano and taped it onto a big flat piece of cardboard. We then applied Sculpta Mold to the cardboard volcano to give the cardboard a plaster texture. Cotton was then glued to the cardboard around the volcano to give the scene a hilly look. The cotton was then paper mached and Sculpta Molded after the paper mache dried to give it the same texture as the volcanoes. The volcanoe and the hills were then spray painted black. To make the ocean, a hot glue border was placed onto the cardboard so the material used for the glue wouldn't drip off the cardboard. To make the water, water color was added to glue to give it a teal color. This teal glue was then applied to the cardboard inside of the hot glue form. Drops of dark blue water color were added to the back of the teal glue and white water color was added to the front to give the water a lighter color. The white was mixed into the glue to give the water a lighter texture in the front towards the beach. The dark blue water color was mixed into the back to give the effect of the water getting deeper. This process was done twice because the first layer soaked into the cardboard. To make the palm trees corks were cut. Then paper leaves were cut and glued to the top of the corks. These were then glued onto the cardboard. Next a thin layer of white glue was added to the cardboard platform. Sand was then sprinkled on top to make a beach. I think the project turned out very well. The water turned out much better than expected.

This semester I have done a multitude of projects from wood carving to paper macheing to pottery on the wheel. The skill that Ihave developed most over the semester was my work on the pottery wheel. I still have a lot to learn about it but I have finally discovered how to make a bowl. All of the skills this semester that I learned were new to me. I really would like to work on pottery more to master my skills. Next semester I am going to try to throw a coffee mug on the wheel.
I am currently of bulding a hot air ballon. For the balloon part I paper mached a balloon. For the basket I am either making it out of pop sickle sticks or wire. I got the inspiration for this project from the balloon festival in Battle Creek. To paper mache a balloon, a balloon was blown up and a layer of glue mixed with water was put on the outside. Then pieces of newspaper were added to the outside of the balloon. Glue was then placed over the pieces of newspaper. This process was repeated with two more layers of newspaper and one layer of paper towel to give the balloon an even surface for paint. I learned that the more glue the better the paper mache is.
